Why am I Running a Marathon?

If you told me three years ago I’d be running in the Los Angeles Marathon, I would have laughed and shouted “no way!” Even two years ago, when I finished my first half-marathon, I said to my husband, “I can’t imagine having to do this all over again. Those marathon people are nuts!” My legs hurt so much I slept much of that afternoon and limped around for the next few days. So, now that I am signed up for the race I could not see myself doing, you must be wondering if I really have gone crazy myself. No, I’m not crazy; I’m deeply inspired. To those that know me, it’s no surprise that I enjoy a challenge but this one is special. Not only will I be running my first marathon ever, but I will be running to benefit a charity I truly believe in: The Angela Shelton Foundation. The Foundation’s mission is to inspire survivors of abuse to heal and lead joyful lives. The work done by Angela Shelton and this Foundation is nothing short of a miracle. People who have been through some of the worst trauma imaginable are completely transformed into beaming, confident, individuals for whom nothing is impossible. This group of people is called The Army of Angels. Their shear joy for life is contagious and I want to be part of helping others experience that joy.
